Rebecca Williams, MD, MHPE, FAAFP
I earned my medical degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). After internship I worked as a General Practitioner for the Oneida Tribe of Indians for several years before completing residency at the University of Wisconsin, Appleton Family Medicine Residency. Returning to UIC as a Family Medicine residency faculty member, I focused my teaching and practice in Maternity Care. While on faculty at UIC, I also pursued training as a teacher of medicine through a Faculty Development Fellowship and a Masters Degree in Health Professions Education.
I currently serve as the Director of Maternity Services for the Department of Family and Social Medicine at the Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Along with patient care, we provide resident education and quality improvement in maternity care for our department.
My research interests are medical education and women’s health, with a focus on normal birth. I have been a physician for over 30 years and have attended hundreds of deliveries. I am a licensed physician practicing in the Bronx, New York, and I am the author of this website.

Why a website?
My experience as an educator has taught me that residents and practicing physicians learn on a “need to know” basis. I have often received questions regarding patient care by e-mail or pager from physicians who are in the midst of office hours. Answering these questions was often difficult. Disseminating practice information to several clinics was challenging: I tried posting notices, sending e-mails and communicating with physicians using department meetings and the department newsletter. When websites became available in the clinics, I posted information on them but found updating materials difficult. Eventually I decided to try my own website.
So, the purpose of this site is twofold. First, the site will provide easy access to reference information for prenatal care. Second, the site will serve as an educational tool for family medicine residents training to provide family centered maternity care. Providers at other locations may find some information useful but should note that many of the policies and protocols are specific to the Montefiore.
